This month we were overjoyed to welcome back *Mariam (name changed), who first came to Contact at 18.
At the time, Mariam was struggling under the weight of a very controlling family environment. She felt trapped and was unsure whether she could ever build an independent life for herself. The safe space and support she found at Contact gave her the opportunity to begin working through her experiences and start choosing her own path. Over time, she began to develop a greater sense of independence and confidence as she moved into adulthood.
When Mariam knocked on our door again, it was extremely special to hear how far she had come. She told us how grateful she was for the time she spent with us and the difference it had made in her life.
It was a lovely moment to see Mariam reunited with her former key worker, Karen. Seeing them together again was particularly touching, as Karen had played such an important role in Mariam’s time at Contact and the support she received during a difficult period in her life.
Since leaving, Mariam has learned to drive, is working two jobs and is studying business management. She has continued to build a life for herself on her own terms and it was so rewarding to hear about everything she has achieved since leaving us.
She told us that she is “happier in herself, strong-willed and excited about where life is taking her.”
Seeing Mariam return through our doors, now so much more confident about her future, was a reminder of the difference that support and a safe place can make. It was wonderful to see her again and hear how well she is doing!
