The girls are back at college, and we’d like to say a very big thank you to everyone who has helped them get ready for the new school year!
Over the past few weeks, we’ve been lucky enough to receive some wonderful donations. From new clothes and stationery to eye tests and glasses, these thoughtful gifts have helped make the start of the new school year that little bit easier.
We know that these things might seem small, but at Contact, we care about the little things too. We want the girls to have the things they need to feel comfortable and cared for, just as everyone should.
Ready for college
After an appeal for stationery, the Willows WI kindly arrived with a fantastic selection of supplies, including notebooks, pens, pencils, highlighters and plenty more. With the first few weeks of term now underway, the girls have been able to get stuck into their studies with everything they need to get started.
We were also delighted to welcome Vision on the Go, who brought professional eye tests directly to Contact. Several of the girls were able to have their eyes tested in the comfort of the hostel, making it much easier for them to access the care they needed. Three pairs of glasses and prescription sunglasses have now been ordered, which will make everyday things like studying and getting around much easier.
It was lovely to see the girls choosing their new frames, and we’re now looking forward to seeing them collect their glasses!
New clothes for a new year
We’ve also been incredibly grateful for the generous donation of clothes from new supporter Emma Milton. Emma donated a lovely selection of smart outfits and leisurewear, giving the girls new things to choose from as they head into the new school year.
For young women who may arrive at Contact with very few belongings of their own, having clothes that they feel comfortable and confident in can make a real difference. Being able to choose something new for college, or simply having something nice to wear at home, can help make Contact feel more like home.
It’s the little things that matter
All of these donations are different but they have something important in common. They show the girls that people are thinking about them and want to see them do well.
At Contact, we want to provide much more than somewhere safe to live. We want the girls to feel cared for in all the little ways that help make a house a home. Sometimes that means making sure they have the right glasses to study or a new outfit they feel good in.
So, to Vision on the Go, the Willows WI, Emma and everyone else who has supported Contact recently, thank you. We’re so grateful for your kindness, generosity and thoughtfulness.
