It’s already that time of year again! Somehow, we are mid-August and the weeks are flying by, which means the start of a new school year is just around the corner.

At Contact, we offer a home to vulnerable young women as they work towards greater independence. A big part of that is helping our residents get back on track with their education. Many of the young women who stay with us are enrolled in college and our support workers steer them through the practical challenges that can make it difficult to stay engaged.

For many of our girls, September brings a fresh start. A new timetable, new goals and yes, a new pencil case. There is something truly thrilling about opening an empty notebook and starting a new school year with everything you need. Sometimes it’s the small things that can help you feel motivated and ready to begin.

We want our residents to have the same opportunities as anyone else. When you are already facing so much uncertainty, having the basics you need for college can make a real difference. A new notebook, pencil case or set of highlighters might seem insignificant, but they can help a young person feel prepared and part of their college community.

Without these everyday essentials, starting a new term can feel completely demoralising. It’s another obstacle before you’ve even stepped through the school gates. Missing out on the little joys of new stationery can leave a young person feeling like they don’t quite fit in.

At Contact Hostel, we always try to think one step ahead. As well as providing a safe place to live and practical support, we want our residents to feel cared for and to know they are not going without. That’s why we’re asking for your help.

We’re looking for school supplies and stationery donations

We’d be so grateful for donations of items such as:

  • Notebooks and lined paper
  • Pens, pencils and highlighters
  • Pencil cases
  • Rulers, rubbers and sharpeners
  • Calculators
  • Backpacks and lunch bags

You can purchase items directly from our Amazon School Supplies Wishlist or, if you’d prefer, feel free to drop donations off at the house.

Every donation can help a young woman walk into the new school year feeling prepared and confident.

Thank you for helping us give our girls the fresh start they deserve.
