Suffragette City, an event dedicated to celebrating women's contributions and advocating for gender equality, recently raised £10,500 in support of four Manchester charities. This resulted in a generous donation of over £2600 to Contact Hostel,  which will significantly aid our mission to provide safe accommodation and practical support to homeless teenage girls in the Manchester area.

Launched in 2018, the annual event is hosted around International Woman’s Day and was founded with the aim of supporting a variety of important local charities and causes, all of which help women and non-binary people.

The funds raised by Suffragette City will be instrumental in covering essential expenses, including running costs and supporting our residents transition to independent living. Each year we have to raise over £200,000 to help keep our doors open – so events like this are essential to our charity.

“The success of Suffragette City shows the power of community collaboration in Manchester” said Helen, Fundraiser at Contact Hostel, “We are so thankful to everyone who attended Suffragette City, enabling them to raise such an amazing amount of money – whilst also having a brilliant night!”

We were delighted to welcome Rina, one of the founders and organisers of Suffragette City, to our hostel. Her visit gave us the opportunity to show her first hand the impact of Suffragette City’s support and how the funds will be used to benefit our residents. Rina said “Suffragette City are delighted to support Contact Hostel in 2025. With the national housing crisis and financial pressures on communities increasing we know what a vital service Contact Hostel provides in Manchester for vulnerable women and girls. “
